Overview
FormatCodes ("we", "us") provides free, browser-based developer tools for formatting, converting, minifying, diffing, and generating code. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use formatcodes.com, and why the site is built around local, in-browser processing.
Your Code Never Leaves Your Browser
Every formatting, conversion, minification, diff, and generation tool on this site runs entirely client-side in your web browser using JavaScript. The code, text, or files you paste or upload into a tool are processed locally on your device and are never transmitted to, stored on, or seen by our servers.
Information We Collect Automatically
Like most websites, we use privacy-conscious analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate — for example, which tools are popular and general traffic patterns. This may include your IP address, browser type, device type, referring URL, and pages visited. We use the following analytics services, which may set their own cookies:
- Google Analytics
- 51.la (web analytics, used primarily for visitors in mainland China)
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies:
- A locale cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) to remember your preferred language.
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics and 51.la, described above.
No Accounts, No Sign-Up
FormatCodes does not require account creation, sign-up, or login. We do not collect names, email addresses, or passwords through the site itself.
Third-Party Links
Some pages link to third-party sites (for example, GitHub). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites you reach through links on formatcodes.com.
Data Retention
Since tool input and output are processed only in your browser and never sent to our servers, there is no server-side retention of the content you process. Aggregate analytics data is retained according to the respective policies of Google Analytics and 51.la.
Children's Privacy
FormatCodes is a general-audience developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page along with an updated "last updated" date.
